Day 01 ZAGREB arrival

Check in at the hotel. Day at leisure and overnight.

You can enjoy a luxurious stay close to all the major sights in this historic city. In the evening enjoy your dinner.

Day 02 ZAGREB WALKING TOUR

After breakfast, we walk you through the streets of the Lower and Upper Town, to Stone Gate, St. Mark’s Church, a symbol of Zagreb, St. Catherine's Church and the Lotrscak Tower. The Church of St. Catherine is one of the most beautiful sacral baroque edifices in Zagreb, because its rich and very stable baroque interior and exterior have been largely preserved. Most of the artwork and the inventory of the church dates from the 17th and the beginning of the 18th century. The stucco was done by the Italian master Antonio Quadrio around 1720, and the large medallions containing scenes from the life of St. Catherine, located on the nave’s ceiling, by Italian painter Giulio Quaglie several years later. Especially valuable is the altar of St. Ignatius, the work of sculptor Francesco Robba, and the High Altar dating from 1762 behind which is the illusionist fresco of St. Catherine among Alexandrine philosophers and writers, which is the work of Kristof Andrej Jelovsek from the same year. Lunch at a cosy local restaurant where you can taste traditional Croatian food. Afternoon at leisure and overnight at the hotel.

Day 03 ZAGREB – VARAZDIN – ZAGREB

After breakfast a full day excursion to VaraZdin, the most important city of north-western region of Croatia, also called the Baroque City. Meet with your local guide, who will take You to visit the old city, town hall, Draskovic Palace, Family Ritz House, Franciscan Church, Patacic Palace, St.Nicholas Church, National theater, as well as Varazdins’ cemetery. The cemetery was constructed following an idea of Hermann Haller and landscaped as a park with maintained cut plants following the Baroque model. Lunch at a small charming local restaurant. Return to Zagreb and overnight at the hotel.

Day 04 ZAGREB – HRVATSKO ZAGORJE – ZAGREB

After breakfast, a full day excursion to Hrvatsko Zagorje Region / Lepoglava – the cradle of science, art and culture that was formed by Pauline order, “the white friars” in 1400, a town located in the gentle landscape of Hrvatsko Zagorje Region below Ivanscica Mountain. The first secular secondary school and the first college in Croatia with the right to grant academic titles were founded here. Sightseeing of diverse monuments, Baroque culture and art, the parish church and monastery that display the frescoes of the distinguished Pauline, Friar Ivan Ranger. We will also visit a workshop of the handmade famous lace, which is believed to have been introduced to Croatia by the Pauline Order, and is a special feature of Lepoglava and its surroundings. The quality and beauty of the Lepoglava lace won the gold award at the World Fair in 1937 in Paris. We take a break for lunch at a local restaurant for some traditional Croatian food.

After lunch, you can visit St John's baroque chapel in Gorica, also richly decorated with Ranger's frescos, visit St. George's baroque chapel in Lepoglava`s Purga and the marvellous Church of St. Mary's of the Snow in Belec, which has a valuable treasure of Baroque wall-paintings. Return to Zagreb. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 05 ZAGREB departure

Breakfast and check out.
