Dubrovnik justifiably invites hyperbole – every corner in the Old Town, in its entirely a UNESCO World Heritage Site, has spellbinding charm and tells many a story. The architects of Dubrovnik included the best of the Croatian masters, including Juraj Dalmatinac (also responsible for the cathedral at Šibenik and the entire town of Pag) in combination with masters from Venice, Dubrovnik’s main rival and trading partner. Architectural beauty is perhaps a cause of a deep immersion in the arts that manifests itself in galleries and festivals.

ITINERARY:

DAY 1: COMING TO DUBROVNIK

Upon arrival at Dubrovnik Airport, transfer to the hotel. Check in to the hotel with 3*. Dinner and overnight.

DAY 2: CLASSIC SIGHTSEEING IN DUBROVNIK OR “GAME OF THRONES” TOUR

Today we offer you two types of sightseeing: a classic one or “Game of Thrones”. Depends on your choice where will you choose to go.

CLASSIC

After breakfast begins the tour with a travel guide. It is one of the most prominent tourist destination in the Mediterranean, a seaport and the center of Dubrovnik-Neretva Count. In 1979, the city of Dubrovnik joined the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites. The prosperity of the city of Dubrovnik was historically based on maritime trade. You will walk around the city and see the main monuments: city walls, Onuphriu’s Fountain, Bokar fortress, Stradun, Dominican Monastery, Old port, Orlando’s column, Rector’s palace, Sponza palace, St. Blaise church, Dubrovnik cathedral, Franciscan Monastery of the Friars Minor.

“GAME OF THRONES”

A specialized tour which would cover the sites in the Old Town of Dubrovnik (and its surroundings) that were used for the scenes in this celebrated HBO TV-series. Walking tour through the city walls and the places where were filmed the episodes and you will visit the fort and fortress where were played the battle scenes. Walk through the fortress of Lawrence from the 11th century where were filmed numerous battle scenes, visit the Old Town and climbing walls that attacked the family Bartheon in the first few episodes. You will hear about great battles and heroes’ valor but also to get first hand insider information about actors, backstage intrigues and amuzing scenes from the movie set. Apart from the King’s Landing, you will also be able to recognize some other locations from the series, such as Magical city of Quarth – Rector’s Palace and Lokrum island view, Red Keep – St. Lawrences fortress, Tomb of the undying location – Mincetta fortress, St. Dominic street, Pile gate, Fort Bakar, Trsteno arboretum.

Free afternoon. Return to the hotel. Dinner and overnight.

 

DAY 3: MLJET ISLAND

After breakfast, excursion to Mljet island, also called “Greenest island in Croatia”. Its location determines clime and vegetation on the island which is famous by its natural heritage: lakes, bays, sources of drinking water, steeply and rocky coast, preserved forests of holm oak tree and aleppo pine, caves, sandy coves. Those are some of the reasons why in 1960 northwest part of the island, with its area of 3.000 ha, became national park. Institution for preserving natural heritage was founded in the same year. Mljet National Park makes up most of the island, and there are several villages, two salt water lakes – Veliko and Malo jezero, and a Benedictine monastery on the island of St. Mary. The center of the rest of the island is Babino Polje with the Odysseus Cave, where he spent seven years watching the sea, because his wife passed away, according to legend, a beautiful coast of the southern Sutmiholjsko Bay and eastwards the Harbour of Sobra, the main harbour of the island from where Mljet is connected with the mainland. The beautiful sandy beaches, Blace Bay and the Sage of Saplunara which are washed by the cleanest sea, stretch in the far south-east where the nature once again surprises us with its wonderful creation of so much beauty in such a small area as the island of some 100 square km. The area is also famous for the remains of the Church of St. Paul who – the legend has it – was beached there during his journeys.

After this excursion, return to the hotel in Dubrovnik. Dinner and overnight.

 

DAY 4: DUBROVNIK – RETURN HOME

Breakfast. Check out of a hotel room. Transfer to the airport.
