Split City Break - 4 days/3 nights

The story of Split is already 17 centuries old – from the time when Roman Emperor Diocletian decided to build a palace near the great Roman city Salona and spend his last days there. The palace slowly turned into a city, which historical core today has been on the World Heritage UNESCO list  since 1979.  A walk through the ancient city takes you through time, along the great examples of ancient architecture like Peristyle, the middle aged Romanesque Church and Gothic Palace, Renaissance portals of the noblemen’s houses, Baroque facades and modern architecture superbly merged in the rich heritage. 

Today Split is much more than glorious architectural scenery.

It has become a venue for excellent gourmet and vine experiences, numerous cultural happenings like film and theatre festivals, exhibitions, excellent museums and concerts, a city which offers eclectic modes of entertainment starting with numerous clubs and bars, through street festivals to events such as Ultra Europe Festival visited each year by up to 100 thousand young people from around the world.

Also very unusual to find in a city the size of Split are the numerous beaches with extraordinarily clean sea, from the well known Bačvice to the stone secluded oases’ all around Marjan. 

How much time is enough to explore Split and its surroundings? We would say – as much as you have – and it will still not be enough.

ITINERARY SUGGESTION

DAY 1: ARRIVAL TO SPLIT

Upon arrival at Split Airport transfer to the hotel. Accomodation in 3 / 4* hotel. Check inn and overnight.

DAY 2: SPLIT

After breakfast, we suggest a morning city tour of Split with local guide. Split is the second-largest city of Croatia and the largest city of the region of Dalmatia. It lies on the eastern shore of the Adriatic Sea, centered on the Roman Palace of the Emperor Diocletian. In 1979, the historic center of Split was included into the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites. You will have the opportunity to visit some of its well-known landmarks: Palace of the Roman Emperor Diocletian, Pjaca, Prokurative, Temple of Jupiter, Croatian National Theatre, Museum of Croatian Archaeological Monuments, Croatian Maritime Museum, Gallery of Fine Arts, Chatedral of St. Duje, Church and Monastery of St. Francis, Church of Holy Trinity, Franciscan church and Monastery of St. Anthony, Stadium Poljud, University Library.

Free afternoon. Return to the hotel. Overnight.

DAY 3: SPLIT – EXCURSION DAY

Breakfast. Use this day to explore Split on your own, visit some museum, or choose one excursion from our Excursion list.

DAY 4: SPLIT – RETURN TO HOME

Breakfast. Check out and transfer to the airport.
