Postojna Cave - full day excursion
Postojna Cave is the biggest sensation of Slovenia with the miracle of nature – the human fish.
33 million tourists visited Postojna Cave in the last 200 years. Be one of them! Postojna Cave is the only cave in Europe with two-way railway line which is set up there for tourist purposes. Natural designed galleries, halls, corridors that are interwined in and cause awe for nature that surrounds them. There are also unavoidable stalagmites and stalactites and each one of them has its own name. A ”Diamond” got its name because it is high whopping 5 meters that creating an unusual landscape in the middle of this one huge gleaming sculpture. At the entrance to the cave, there are various restaurants with terrace, souvenir shops and a beautiful park by the river Pivka. Predjamska fortress is more than 700 years old and stands at 123 m high rocky cliff. Predjama Castle is a Renaissance castle behind the cave. It is about 11 kilometers from Postojna. Predjama Castle served as a stage role in 1986 in the film Armour of God, Golden Harvest, which starred Jackie Chan, Alam Tan, Rosamound Kwan and Lola Forner. Also, the castle was shown in paranormal activities in 2008 in one episode of Ghost Hunters International on SCI FI Channel.
ITINERARY:
In the morning an air-conditioned minivan will pick you up at the main meeting point in Zagreb and drive towards the Croatian and Slovenian border crossing Bregana and continue to Slovenia to Postojna. A visit to Postojna Cave – 20 km long chain of underground caves, passages, galleries, accompanied by a local guide. It is the largest classical karst cave and also the most visited tourist cave in Europe. Innumerable richness of stalactites of various shapes, colors and generations, calcareous sinters, tunnels, corridors, an astonishing diversity of karst features and easy access are certainly the main reasons for such popularity of the cave and a large number of visitors each year. Other works of art that nature has created over millennia and certainly its most famous resident – the human fish. The cave has a constant temperature around 10C. Sightseeing of the entire cave. After leaving the cave visit the Predjama Castle, with optional entrance to the castle. Free time to enjoy the beautiful nature park that surrounds the castle and lunch in a local restaurant.
In the late afternoon, departure to Croatia. Arrival to Zagreb in the evening.
